Planning for new sports ministry follows Taiwan's success at Paris Olympics

:::

At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a Ministry of Education (MOE) briefing on Taiwan's achievements at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics and the creation of a new ministry of sports. The premier said Taiwan's national team had an excellent performance at the Paris Olympics, winning two gold medals and five bronze medals. The premier gave thanks and recognition to the MOE's Sports Administration, the National Sports Training Center, and the Taiwan Institute of Sports Science, as well as related ministries and agencies, for dedicating their full support to the team's affairs, providing top-notch logistical assistance, and enabling the athletes to deliver their finest performances.

To implement President Lai Ching-te's policy of strengthening Taiwan through sports, the Executive Yuan will with immediate effect establish a planning team for the new ministry of sports, the premier said. In September, a consultation group will also be formed, inviting participation from individuals and experts across the sports sector and sports industries, with a view to formulating a comprehensive plan for the nation's sports policy and building a solid support base for Taiwanese athletes.
