At Thursday's weekly Cabinet meeting, Premier Cho Jung-tai received briefings from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of the Interior, Financial Supervisory Commission and Ocean Affairs Council (OAC) on measures to ensure readiness during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, which will begin next week and last for nine days. The premier thanked government staff who will remain on duty to meet the needs of people returning home for family reunions or traveling on vacation, and praised their commitment to maintaining uninterrupted services throughout the holiday, allowing the public to enjoy a peaceful Lunar New Year.
Concerning preparations for outbound and inbound travel, Premier Cho noted that Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport expects to serve between 137,000 and 164,000 passengers daily during the festive period, and directed the MOTC and Taoyuan International Airport Corporation to minimize waiting times by implementing orderly queuing and efficient passenger processing.
During the Lunar New Year period, the risk of animal diseases entering the country is expected to rise alongside the anticipated surge in passenger and cargo traffic. The premier therefore called on relevant government bodies—including the MOA, MOTC, OAC, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Economic Affairs—to continue rigorously enforcing border control measures to prevent disease entry.
Regarding national security, Premier Cho asked the Ministry of National Defense to commend all members of the armed forces for their role in protecting the nation and its people. He also extended special thanks to coast guard personnel for their perseverance and dedication to border readiness, and instructed the OAC and Coast Guard Administration to remain vigilant against illegal cross-border vessels and smuggling activities in order to firmly secure Taiwan's maritime borders.
