Government to launch various key measures benefiting the public in 2026

:::

At a Cabinet meeting Friday, Premier Cho Jung-tai was briefed by the Executive Yuan's Department of Coordination and Planning on major policies and public-benefit measures that will be implemented starting January 2026. The premier said that over the past year and seven months since his administrative team took office on May 20, 2024, they have consistently pursued key policy objectives focused on improving people's well-being, economic development, public security and national security. In spite of the daunting political and economic challenges at home and abroad, the government has steadily and pragmatically advanced new policies, progressively realizing President Lai Ching-te's "National Project of Hope" policy vision.

Premier Cho noted that from January 2026 onward, the government will introduce various key measures to bring greater benefits and convenience for the public. These include a minimum wage hike, marking the 10th consecutive year of raises; tax reductions that benefit both individuals and families; a more flexible parental leave without pay system that better aligns with parents' child care needs; and expanded maternity benefits across various social insurance programs to strengthen support for families raising children.

Premier Cho further said his administrative team is doing its utmost, in accordance with the constitutional order, to ensure the continued implementation of major policies and programs. He expressed hope that all party caucuses in the Legislative Yuan can complete deliberations on the central government's 2026 general budget proposal as soon as possible. Looking ahead to the new year, the premier said his administrative team will continue to safeguard Taiwan's democratic constitutional system, protect national security, stimulate economic growth, improve people's well-being, and advance vital infrastructure and policy initiatives, thereby fostering a more peaceful and content society and enabling Taiwan to move forward confidently into the future.
