Public and private forces creating elderly-friendly environment

:::
Premier Chang San-cheng stated today at the 2016 fitness-and-fun event for senior citizens at the Tamsui Customs Wharf in New Taipei City that the public and private sectors have joined forces to create a friendly environment for the elderly.

The government has formulated a white paper on Taiwan's aging society, Chang noted. The Ministry of the Interior (MOI) and Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) have both set up barrier-free measures for the elderly to help them get around more easily: the MOI at national parks and public spaces, and the MOTC in various transportation stations and on passenger vehicles. Moreover, the white paper has mapped out other strategies to look after senior citizens in full or sub-optimal health.

At the Tamsui Customs Wharf Chang not only joined the elderly in doing physical exercises, but also inspected and personally experienced the health promotion equipment designed for elderly people.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) stated that the Tamsui wharf fitness-and-fun event began today and will last till May 1. The MOHW hopes the exhibition of health promotion equipment for the elderly, such as digital machines for testing physical fitness and analyzing body mass and finger-pressure training tools, will help citizens get acquainted with these machines and better take care of the needs and health of senior citizens in their households, while inspiring a trend in exercising by elderly people.
