Forum to discuss online equity crowdfunding

:::
The Executive Yuan will be hosting an online conference March 24 to discuss equity-based crowdfunding as part of a series of conferences exploring law and policy in the virtual world.

After the Executive Yuan passed a plan in December 2014 to align regulations with the rapidly growing virtual world, it began gleaning the public's opinion on the matter via the discussion platform vTaiwan.tw established by the online group g0v.tw. It also organized live broadcast conferences for competent authorities, scholars, experts and social network representatives to discuss virtual world policies and address comments posted on the platform. Topics for the first conference held March 12 included closed corporations and online transaction taxes.

Tomorrow's conference will focus on online equity-based crowdfunding. One such platform had been established by the Taipei Exchange (GreTai Securities Market) last year to help innovative startups raise capital though online media. However, the platform was designed with strict eligibility standards to ensure successful fundraising. To help more startups connect with the venture capitals and angel investors they need, the Financial Supervisory Commission is looking into permitting private-sector crowdfunding platforms, and has uploaded proposed amendments to the vTaiwan.tw platform for public discussion.

The Executive Yuan invites all to visit and leave their comments on vTaiwan.tw ahead of tomorrow's conference, which will be broadcast on LIVEHouse.in from 7 to 9 p.m.
