While presiding over the 14th Golden Carnation Awards today, Premier Chang San-cheng stated that this award aims to promote female executives and gender mainstreaming, and the ceremony's timing has special significance as Women's Day is just around the corner, on March 8.
With the efforts of various agencies, the government has enacted and garnered good results in implementing the Gender Equity Education Act, the Act of Gender Equality in Employment, three laws on preventing sexual violence—the Sexual Harassment Prevention Act, Sexual Assault Crime Prevention Act, and Domestic Violence Prevention Act—and the Enforcement Act of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women. The premier expects the various ministries and agencies to enforce the spirit of these laws.
The Executive Yuan's Department of Gender Equality, which has hosted the Golden Carnation Awards since 2015, supervises ministries and agencies to spur them promote gender equality tasks via sweeping changes and innovative measures, Chang remarked.
The premier noted that 19 organizations were honored at this year's awards ceremony:
● The Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labor (MOL) each garnered awards for excellence.
● The Ministry of Economic Affairs and nine other agencies received honorable mentions.
● The Ministry of the Interior and five other agencies were bestowed gender-equality innovation
awards.
● The Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Regional Branch of the MOL's Workforce Development Agency won the
gender-equality story award.
The Executive Yuan expects agencies at every level of government to devote resources and exert creativity to promote gender-equality tasks, safeguard women's rights and interests, and support development of the nation's female work force in order to enhance national competitiveness and engender an equitable and happy society.
