The Executive Yuan on Thursday approved a draft proposal for a marine conservation act by the Ocean Affairs Council (OAC). The bill will now be submitted to the Legislative Yuan for deliberation.
Premier Chen Chien-jen said the proposed act contains new amendments that will help expand designated marine conservation areas around Taiwan, conserve and restore marine biodiversity, and complement the Climate Change Response Act and other related laws. The bill will enable more proactive contribution toward marine conservation, building healthy ecosystems that balance environmental sustainability alongside the "blue economy" of ocean-related industries.
The premier instructed the OAC to communicate and coordinate with the legislative caucuses of all political parties to ensure swift passage of the bill into law.
