With the Mid-Autumn Festival a week away, Premier Jiang Yi-huah at today's Cabinet meeting instructed the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) to ensure the nation's transportation network is in optimal condition to accommodate citizens' trips home and to tourist destinations as well as the shipping of seasonal goods.
While monitoring transportation demand and flexibly managing transport and distribution challenges, the MOTC should strengthen oversight of distribution plan implementation, distribution safety, response mechanisms, and transport capacity readiness, Jiang said.
"The Mid-Autumn Festival is an important folk holiday, and this year it coincides with a four-day vacation weekend, so we can expect a large number of citizens to travel home or to tourist destinations," the premier remarked. "The MOTC has made necessary preparations to the transportation and distribution network, and I would like to thank my colleagues for their hard work on this."
With respect to the pricing and allocation of agricultural products popular during the festival, the Premier pointed out that the successive landfalls of Typhoon Trami and Tropical Storm Kong-Rey on Taiwan severely damaged Taiwan's fruit- and vegetable-producing areas and necessitated urgent land rehabilitation. Hence, the premier asked the Council of Agriculture to supervise the implementation of supply adjustment measures and requested the Ministry of Health and Welfare and Ministry of Finance to cooperate in expediting fruit and vegetable customs clearance and inspection procedures at ports to alleviate supply shortages and meet holiday demand.
