Government agencies urged to install latest security updates to guard against ransomware

:::

After a massive ransomware attack spread around the globe last week, the Executive Yuan today said the attack had not affected Taiwan's government agencies, hospitals or public facilities so far. But to actively guard against potential attacks, the government is taking the following response measures:

1. Information technology departments at all government agencies should ensure computers have the latest security updates installed before the workday begins.

2. Any links containing the ransomware virus will be directly blocked by the Government Service Network.

3. The Financial Supervisory Commission, National Communications Commission and Ministry of Health and Welfare will be in close communication with financial institutions, telecommunications providers and hospitals, respectively, and report any attacks to the Executive Yuan immediately. The Executive Yuan will provide prompt support.
