The Executive Yuan on Thursday approved the Ministry of Economic Affairs' draft amendments to a special act to strengthen economic, social and homeland security resilience in response to global challenges. The proposed amendments will now be submitted to the Legislative Yuan for deliberation.
Premier Cho Jung-tai stated that, as Taiwan-U.S. tariff negotiations are still ongoing, the draft amendments allocate increased funding for industry support measures to promptly address the needs of various sectors during this period. The aim is to strengthen and expand the scope of assistance. The amendments also introduce financial support for power supply systems, in line with the requirements for maintaining industrial stability; expand support for disadvantaged groups and enhance care services; and allocate the funding necessary for the distribution of cash payouts to bolster social resilience.
He added that the bill sets a budget ceiling of NT$590 billion (approximately US$19.7 billion), and directed all ministries and agencies to enhance communication efforts to facilitate the swift completion of the legislative process, with the goal of strengthening national resilience and delivering timely support to industries and the public.
