Premier vows to bring river and farm polluters to justice

:::
At the Cabinet meeting today, Premier Jiang Yi-huah expressed deep concern over industrial wastewater pollution of rivers and farms by Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc. and certain electroplating factories in the Changhua area and enjoined related government agencies to uphold justice, pinpoint the causes of the contamination and hold the culprits accountable for their crimes.

"Government agencies handling these types of cases should act with impartiality, seek the truth, provide clarification if necessary, and investigate the criminal or administrative responsibilities of perpetrators as they deem fit," Jiang said.

An "in-depth investigation" mechanism promoted by the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) that unites prosecutorial, police and EPA officials in enforcing the law has reaped concrete results, the premier pointed out.

Jiang enjoined the EPA to continue implementing and reviewing environmental laws and regulations and to swiftly revise them if any loopholes are discovered therein.
