The Executive Yuan is committed to promote industrial development in southern Taiwan and determined to create more employment opportunities there, Spokesperson Sun Lih-chyun said today.
The spokesperson repudiated certain media reports that purposely created the impression of confrontation between the central and local governments. He said Premier Mao Chi-kuo—from the perspectives and with the attitudes of responsibility, encouragement, pragmatism and concern—had demanded that the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) continue to bolster industrial transformation so that the nation's industries in different regions can link up with the future trends of integration between the manufacturing sector, information and telecommunications industries, and Internet industry, while gaining market opportunities ahead of competitors.
The Executive Yuan regrets that certain media purposely distorted the premier's words but emphasized that such reports will not affect the Executive Yuan's continued assistance to industrial development in southern Taiwan and determination to promote more employment opportunities there.
Traditional industries in southern Taiwan are flourishing and have been undergoing transformation in recent years, Sun pointed out. The central government will continue to bolster various industrial development and talent-cultivation policies while providing local governments with necessary policy tools and financial resources.
Premier Mao visited Brogent Technologies, Inc. yesterday (April 12) and was very pleased to know that the company has taken the lead in the global market for simulation technology and facilities, Sun said. He hopes more companies in Kaohsiung City and other southern counties and cities can duplicate Brogent's model of operation so that additional high-tech employment opportunities can be created for job seekers in the region.
In his address, Premier Mao had reiterated that the government has been working to create more high-tech jobs in southern Taiwan, so that people who wish to return to their hometowns can get employment there. He also noted this would help balance northern and southern Taiwan's industrial development.
Brogent Technologies, Inc. is located in the Kaohsiung Software Technology Park, which is administered by the MOEA's Export Processing Zone Administration, the Executive Yuan pointed out. The park launched operations in 2008 to solicit manufacturers. With the support and close collaboration of the MOEA's staff units and subsidiary agencies such as the Department of Industrial Technology, Industrial Development Bureau, Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, and Institute for Information Industry, more than 200 companies had stationed in the park as of the end of January 2015. They had invested an aggregated amount of NT$20 billion (US$645.16 million) and created nearly 4,000 jobs.
Throughout this process, the MOEA has collaborated with the Kaohsiung City Government's Economic Development Bureau to help engender a sound employment environment. Relevant colleges and universities in southern Taiwan have also formed a strategic alliance between the digital-content industry and academia to usher in the park's development.
In the future the central government will consolidate various industrial development and talent cultivation policies while continuing to provide local governments with necessary policy tools and financial resources, Sun reiterated. The Executive Yuan will not be affected by certain media reports that purportedly twisted the premier's meaning, and it hopes the central and local governments will work hand in hand to boost high-tech industry development in Kaohsiung.
