At the Taiwan Air Force (TAF) Designathon's opening ceremony today at the TAF innovation base (the former site of the ROC Air Force Headquarters), Premier Mao Chi-kuo remarked that the Executive Yuan is currently proactively promoting innovative startups.
The purpose of today's event is to help turn the TAF base into an innovative platform so as to bring about a blossoming of similar bases in different parts of Taiwan, the premier stated. It is hoped that people from all lines of businesses will come to this site to generate ideas, and via mutual brainstorming help the base develop deeper, more energized creative functions.
The premier stated that he personally thinks starting a business is a rather long and complicated process that involves innovation and creative ideas, from conception to manufacturing a product to developing a market. Taiwan currently has numerous startup bases that are aligned with the international community. During this process, innovation is foremost, followed subsequently by popularization.
Another major point of innovation is to be fast, Mao further commented. Today's activity is focused on the concept of crowdsourcing, in which the crowds will jointly develop their innovative ideas and take immediate action rather than waiting for everything to be ready.
Today's event calls for each of the participants to pool their wisdom, focusing on developing all kinds of possibilities for the site. This space is for all to work on, and it is hoped that through everyone's efforts the TAF innovation base will turn into not only a source of Taiwan's creativity but also a shining star in the world of innovation. Today, with the participants initiating their magical spell, this process has begun, Mao said.
When launching the base on March 25 this year, Premier Mao had stated that Taiwan must possess a winner's thinking and ambition, exploit its advantages, shape its future branding and transform Taiwan into a dream place for realizing one's aspirations in the world of innovative economies, the Executive Yuan stated.
This is why the premier has advocated adopting the name TAF for the new base, where young people can develop their potential and realize their passions through innovation, creativity and startups, and then make a name for themselves worldwide. The "T" of TAF stands for Taiwan, meaning for everyone in Taiwan; the "A" represents openness, diversity and tolerance; and the "F" means force and potential.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs stated that the two-day Designathon upholds the spirit of originality, openness and positive thinking. It is hoped that through this event citizens will help map out their own blueprints for TAF and chart its future possible courses. Through marathon brainstorming sessions, the participating teams will propose a variety of possible innovative plans.
