New sports ministry to kick off new era of sports for Taiwan

:::

At Thursday's weekly Cabinet meeting, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a report from the newly inaugurated Ministry of Sports (MOS) on its plans to drive a new era of sports in Taiwan. The premier noted that the MOS was officially established on September 9, 2025, coinciding with National Sports Day, and that NT$24.8 billion (approximately US$818.2 million) will be allocated in the central government's 2026 general budget to support sports development. He further thanked everyone involved in the sports ministry's formation, lauding their efforts in working together with the government to take this crucial first step.

Premier Cho said that the newly formed Sports for All Agency and the planned Taiwan Sports Industry Development Center will serve as two key arms of the sports ministry. He called on the MOS to take proactive steps to realize its core vision of "sports for all" and to implement plans for the Taiwan Sports Industry Development Center in order to grow the sports economy and stimulate domestic demand.
