Premier pays visits to angel center and veterans' home

In advance of the Lunar New Year, Premier Chang San-cheng today visited the Angel Development Center for Mental Handicap established by the Roman Catholic diocese of Hsinchu and later in the evening visited the Taipei Veterans Home in Sanxia District of New Taipei City.

At the angel center, the premier donated money in a red envelope to contribute to New Year's dinner, gave out New Year's fortune bags and expressed his gratitude to every of the center's employees for taking good care of the children there, lightening the caregiving burdens of their families and nurturing children with energy and dynamism. The premier hopes the public will likewise spread such love to everyone in society who needs care. The children presented him with potted plants, wonderful handmade carrier bags and their paintings of flowers in bloom.

At the veterans' home in Sanxia, Chang got a firsthand understanding of the care extended to the senior citizens there. Besides donating fortune bags and money for New Year's dinner, the premier had dinner with the veterans and toasted every one of them from table to table, wishing them a happy new year and expressing his gratitude and respect for their toilsome service and distinguished contributions.

"The veterans standing here fought hard for the nation in their youth and are exemplars for the succeeding generations," Premier Chang remarked.
