Premier Mao Chi-kuo today attended the 2015 disaster-prevention-and-rescue drill organized by the Kinmen County Government (KCG). He praised the participants for their dexterity and training while encouraging the county government to continue its preparations for various disasters that might occur in the future.
Air and sea transportation to and from Kinmen rely heavily on climatic conditions, the premier pointed out. Thus, once any disaster occurs, the immediate rescue tasks must necessarily be conducted independently by the county government.
Today's compound-disaster drill simulated typhoons, aviation accidents and other incidents that might incur harm and losses to the public. It is no easy task to carry out such a comprehensive drill, but the exercise was very successful, the premier affirmed. It was meticulously planned, even accounting for the accommodation, settlement and psychological counseling of victims.
Premier Mao expressed his gratitude to all drill participants, including KCG staff and local residents. He reiterated that being prepared in normal times will help mitigate losses and harm once a disaster strikes, and encouraged everyone to take such exercises seriously.
The KCG stated that today's drill was based on the Executive Yuan's 2015 disaster prevention and rescue guidelines. The county undertook full-scale exercises in high-risk locations, simulating types of disasters that might occur in the county. The KCG affirmed that it places great importance on such drills.
