Premier attends opening of international review on national gender discrimination report

:::

Premier Su Tseng-chang on Monday attended the opening ceremony for the review meeting of the fourth national report under the U.N. Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). Since the Enforcement Act of Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women was enacted in 2011, Taiwan has compiled four associated national reports. The premier directed the relevant ministries and agencies to give the review committee's concluding observations all due consideration, and ensure that they are incorporated in the drafting of future implementation and policy measures.

The Executive Yuan last year coordinated with representatives from all five branches of the central government to jointly draft the fourth national report on CEDAW and solicited and compiled a broad range of public opinion. The report was formally published in June of this year.

To promote equal gender rights and build a more comprehensive protective network against gender-based violence, the government in recent years has also continued to push for legislation to bolster gender equality, combat sexual violence crimes, and more fully safeguard women's working rights and health rights.

Premier Su expressed his gratitude to Shin Hei-soo, chairperson of the international review committee, and her fellow committee members for the long and unwavering support and interest they have shown to Taiwan, as well as for the many valuable observations they provided. The premier also thanked non-governmental partners and all sectors of society for steadily working together to improve Taiwan, and reaffirmed the government's determination to continue advancing gender equality and human rights protections.
