Government and industry promote intelligent machinery for industrial transformation

:::

At the 13th annual Hiwin Thesis Award ceremony today Premier Lin Chuan said that intelligent machinery will play an important role in transforming Taiwan's industrial sector, and that the government and private enterprise must work together to create a better investment environment, retain talent and attract outstanding foreign professionals to work with domestic personnel and create world class industries.

As Taiwan's machinery industry faces the challenges of the Industry 4.0 era, its ability to incorporate intelligent technologies is crucial for Taiwan's overall industrial development. At this stage, the industry needs to first establish Industry 3.0 capabilities in information technology, as well as production and digital management, and then work with the information industry to set up a common network platform, the premier said.

The government currently plans to have the world's largest industrial computer maker, Advantech, complete the common network platform within one to two years. Enterprises that want to employ Industry 4.0 capabilities can register as participating members, store production data on that platform, and use application management technology to implement automated production schedules and intelligent management and manufacturing processes, while still ensuring data information security.

Many industries including textiles, machine tools, aerospace, plumbing fixtures, fasteners and printed circuit boards are expected to embrace Industry 4.0 by applying intelligent machine technology, thereby transforming Taiwan's industrial structure, the premier said.

He expressed hope that all companies will be able to participate in Industry 4.0, as the government will also provide a simplified intelligent network platform developed by the Industrial Technology Research Institute to be used by smaller businesses with fewer assets. He also hopes that industry, academia and research institutes will work together to commercialize research results and export service application modules for various industries, making Taiwan industries more international.

In the past, the machine industry was unable to utilize talent to its fullest, and the government now hopes to create more opportunities to allow industries to collaborate, and forge links between personnel in the machinery and electrical engineering industries so that the machine sector can develop its full potential.

The premier then commended Chairman Eric Chuo for his outstanding efforts in leading Hiwin Technologies Corp., and for cultivating talent in the machinery sector by establishing this award, now in its 13th year, to inspire scholars in the field. On behalf of the government, the premier expressed his admiration and gratitude to Chuo and the scholars and industry representatives on hand, pledging that the government will work with the industry to strive for even greater achievements.
