Saving the lives of victims from last week's water park powder explosion is priority one, Premier Mao Chi-kuo said today while visiting victims and their families at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Hospital in southern Taiwan.
The next few days will be a critical time for those severely injured, and hospitals will continue fighting to save their lives, Mao said. From the start, the government has kept a close eye on the sufficiency of hospital staff and medical supplies, adding that NCKU Hospital is one institution that has ample levels of both. The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) is also taking stock of available medical manpower and supplies throughout the country. The premier hopes everyone can pitch in and do what they can to save the victims.
"The burn patients are now spread across different hospitals. Regardless of where they are, the entire medical community, the MOHW and all of Taiwan are rallying behind them and praying for their recovery," Mao said.
The premier thanked NCKU Hospital and other hospitals for their excellent care and treatment of victims from the accident. Saving lives is most important, he reiterated, and medical cost should not be a concern for medical staff as they administer different types of treatment.
