Premier Jiang Yi-huah today announced a new Cabinet lineup with several political appointees having concluded their terms or completed their assignments. The shuffle was made after lengthy consultations with the president and in consideration of the Executive Yuan's overall policy direction. Jiang said he hopes the new team will rise to the public's expectations and continue the work of advancing citizens' well-being.
For the new Cabinet, National Taiwan University Department of Social Work Professor Joyce Feng will take over as the Executive Yuan minister without portfolio in charge of social welfare affairs; Deputy Minister of Defense Andrew N.D. Yang will become minister of national defense; Steven S.K. Chen, Executive Yuan minister without portfolio in charge of social welfare affairs, will move on to become minister of the Overseas Community Affairs Council; ROC Navy Chief Admiral Tung Hsiang-lung will serve as minister of the Veteran Affairs Commission; Deputy Finance Minister Tseng Ming-chung will become minister of the Financial Supervisory Commission; Council of Indigenous Peoples Deputy Minister Lin Chiang-yi will be promoted to minister of the council; and Public Construction Commission Deputy Minister Yan Jeou-rong will be promoted to minister of that commission.
After today's announcement concerning new ministry heads, the Executive Yuan will announce more changes regarding deputy ministers in August. Those appointments will be named by the new ministry heads in consultation with Premier Jiang. The premier asked the new Cabinet members to bring themselves up to speed and report back to him within one month on future policy plans.
