The Ministry of Health and Welfare is monitoring people who came in contact with a mainland Chinese tourist confirmed to be the third imported case of H7N9 bird flu in Taiwan, Premier Jiang Yi-huah said at a Cabinet meeting today.
Health officials are also taking appropriate measures to treat the patient and control the spread of the virus. The premier asked the ministry to issue timely public messages on disease control and step up health education campaigns so that the public may have a full understanding and avoid unnecessary panic.
While the H7N9 outbreak is on the wane in mainland China, Taiwan is still at risk of disease transmission due to frequent travels between the two sides. Jiang asked government agencies to continue taking precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak from affecting cross-strait exchanges.
