Government readies plans for NT$6,000 universal cash payment

:::

At Thursday's Cabinet meeting, Premier Chen Chien-jen received a briefing from the Ministry of Finance on the government's plan to share the proceeds of economic growth with the public in the form of a one-off cash payment for every person of NT$6,000 (US$196). The premier said he understands that the cash payment is eagerly anticipated by the public, and to maximize convenience and manage distribution, the government has developed a range of methods for people to obtain their payment. Once a post-pandemic special budget has been approved, the government will rapidly implement its plan to distribute the cash payments.

The special budget, designed to boost economic and social resilience and share the proceeds of growth in the post-pandemic era, was submitted February 23 by the Executive Yuan to the Legislative Yuan for deliberation. The premier said the special budget will expedite post-pandemic recovery, maintain the momentum of economic growth and share the fruits of that growth with the public. He expressed special thanks to Legislative Yuan President You Si-kun, who is convening with legislative caucuses Thursday afternoon to discuss the issue. The premier hopes that all party caucuses can reach a consensus and swiftly pass the special budget so that the public can receive the government's compassionate support.
