The majority of the Taiwanese public supports maintaining the status quo of cross-strait peace and prosperity—a desire that is shared across the Taiwan Strait and the entire region, Premier Mao Chi-kuo said today at the Cabinet's weekly meeting.
After a briefing on Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Minister Andrew Hsia's latest meeting with the head of the Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) in mainland China, Premier Mao said the fruits of cross-strait ties accumulated over the past seven years were hard-won and should be cherished. The premier directed the MAC to collaborate with other government agencies on follow-up issues to the meeting so as to further peace, stability and well-being among the people.
Premier Mao said that the meetings between the heads of the MAC and TAO are part of a communication platform for building, expanding, innovating and deepening cross-strait ties.
In the latest and fourth meeting between the two heads, Minister Hsia expounded the ROC's mainland policies and helped build mutual understanding and trust. The premier commended Hsia and MAC officials for their hard work in promoting cross-strait peace.
