At Thursday's Cabinet meeting, the Central Election Commission (CEC), Ministry of the Interior (MOI) and Ministry of Justice (MOJ) delivered briefings on the upcoming 2024 presidential and legislative elections, which will be held on January 13. Premier Chen Chien-jen asked the CEC to work closely with the MOI to re-run detailed pre-election checks, inspections and other preparatory work, formulate and rehearse contingency plans for all possible eventualities, and fully communicate the rules and regulations governing the elections with the public.
The premier also directed the MOI's National Police Agency to work together with the MOJ and its prosecutorial and investigation agencies to guard against foreign influence, illegal funding, violence, disinformation and gambling from affecting election outcomes. The premier said that to successfully fulfill its duties, the government must uphold the principles of just, fair and open elections.
