Dr. Wu Se-hwa, president of National Chengchi University (NCCU), has been appointed as Taiwan's minister of education, the Executive Yuan announced today.
Wu has a Bachelor of Science in communication engineering from National Chiao Tung University as well as a Master of Business Administration and a doctorate in management from NCCU.
He has held many other positions at NCCU, as well, including founder and director of the Graduate Institute of Technology, Innovation and Intellectual Property Management, first director of the Innovation Incubator Center, and dean of the College of Commerce.
Wu's expertise in strategic management, industry and competitive analysis, the knowledge economy, innovation and innovative education has made him a distinguished scholar in the field of management, the Executive Yuan said. He is the First Academician of the Chinese Society for Management of Technology and was awarded the Outstanding Academic Performance Prize of the Chinese Society for Management of Technology in 2008. He has also previously been an advisor for the Ministry of Education and chairman of the Association of National Universities of Taiwan.
The Executive Yuan noted Wu's great performance and rich experience in the domains of academics, education, research and administration alike and affirmed he is already quite familiar with the government's education policies. The Executive Yuan believes that as minister of education, Dr. Wu will make significant contributions to educational innovation and assist government efforts to more closely connect academia with industries.
