Premier Mao Chi-kuo today commended the Public Construction Commission (PCC) for a successful first quarter that saw over 98 percent of the public construction budget implemented as planned.
After hearing the PCC's first-quarter report to the Cabinet, the premier directed the commission to continue pushing all projects to meet schedule and quality targets, and to head off project difficulties by strengthening inter-ministrial coordination. The premier also reminded authorities to pay special attention to the progress, safety and quality of high-profile projects or infrastructure that directly affect people's everyday life.
As for the Hushan Reservoir construction project in Yunlin County, although the water pipelines will not be completed until year-end, the premier hopes the reservoir's water storage functions can be operational in time to alleviate next year's dry season.
In 2014, the budget implementation efficiency for public works worth over NT$100 million (US$3.29 million) reached 95.71 percent—the second consecutive year over 95 percent, the PCC said. For the first quarter of 2015, NT$59.10 billion (US$1.87 billion) or 98.42 percent of the budget for PCC-managed public works was implemented.
