As Taiwan gets ready to welcome this year's 10 millionth visitor sometime this month, Premier Mao Chi-kuo today instructed the Ministry of Transportation and Communications to make every preparation for this milestone and to share this joyous occasion with all citizens.
Boasting a travel-friendly environment, gourmet food and gracious hospitality, Taiwan has been widely featured in international media as a destination of choice. National Geographic, for instance, included the island nation in its Best Trips 2015 list.
Tourism is one of the focal industries on the government's policy agenda, the premier said. Thanks to the joint efforts of the central government, local governments and the private sector, the number of tourists to Taiwan has grown rapidly and steadily—from only 3 million plus in 2008 to an expected record 10 million by the end of 2015.
