Taiwan and the U.K. on Wednesday announced a decision to launch official talks on an Enhanced Trade Partnership (ETP), with more negotiations to follow regarding trade and investment in priority areas. The announcement was made after a teleconference discussion earlier Wednesday between John Deng, Minister without Portfolio and Taiwan's top trade negotiator, and Nigel Huddleston, U.K. Minister for International Trade.
Preliminary talks will begin as soon as possible and initially focus on three key areas: investment, energy and net zero, and digital trade. Both sides are committed to building an investment environment founded on fair competition; cooperating on energy to tackle climate change and promote decarbonization; and working together to enhance data protections and data free flow with trust (DFFT) to facilitate digital trade.
