As military tension rises in the Korean Peninsula, Premier Jiang Yi-huah said today that the Executive Yuan is monitoring the events closely and has prepared a full contingency plan. Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Ministry of National Defense (MND), Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) and other government agencies have response measures in place to deal with a wide range of possible situations.
The premier said the MOFA has set up an emergency response task force and is working directly with the Taipei Mission in Korea. The mission's offices in Seoul and Busan have also established special teams to oversee the safety of Taiwanese citizens residing, conducting business, studying or traveling in that country. Noting that the U.S., Japan and Australia have not raised their travel alert levels on South Korea, the MOFA is maintaining a gray travel advisory for now. The South Koreans have kept a calm mindset and are continuing with life as normal, MOFA said.
Jiang also said the MOEA is in active communications with local businesses, providing up-to-date information and offering assistance whenever necessary. The FSC will continue to implement stock market stimulus measures to stabilize markets and boost investor confidence. The MND and MOTC are also ready to lend assistance as the situation calls for. The premier assured citizens that the government has carefully crafted response measures will keep close tabs on the developments.
