After hearing the Ministry of Education's (MOE) report at today's Cabinet meeting on the planning of a sports talent training system, Premier Mao Chi-kuo reiterated the government's determination to proactively cultivate athletes at various levels.
"Taiwan's athletes performed well at the Universiade, the World Archery Championships and the U-12 Baseball World Cup held this year," noted the premier. Commending the efforts of all the participating coaches and athletes, he requested the MOE to continue going all out to cultivate athletes, setting pragmatic goals for various world sporting events.
"Good athletes need support from professional teams," indicated Premier Mao, adding that the nation's sports science, sports medicine as well as sports training and guidance have all been modernized.
The MOE stated that it will continue implementing various projects involving selection, training, competition, guidance and rewards to nurture excellent athletes and coaches, while organizing professional support teams comprising experts in sports science, medicine, training and guidance.
"It is hoped that renovation of the National Sports Training Center (NSTC) will provide Taiwan's athletes a better environment to train for international competitions," Mao added. The MOE stated that the NSTC, which acquired legal personhood January 1, 2015, will be able to provide Taiwan's athletes with a more excellent environment equipped with better facilities than ever.
