While receiving Chairman Bernd Barkey and the European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan (ECCT) delegation today, Premier Mao Chi-kuo expressed gratitude to the ECCT for its long-term support of the nation's trade policies and for its invaluable recommendations.
The ECCT has contributed greatly to the ease of doing business in Taiwan as well as the nation's rule of law and overall business environment, Mao said. He anticipates greater interaction between the two sides in order to make Taiwan's business environment even better in the future.
The premier reiterated that Taiwan's economic and trade cooperation with Europe is an issue of great concern to the government. Today, the Executive Yuan invited all relevant ministries and agencies to the meeting so that they could discuss and conceive viable solutions for problems faced by ECCT members, whether in regulations or other practical operations.
In order to expedite the nation's entry into regional economic integration, the Executive Yuan in 2014 directed the National Development Council to enhance supervision and coordinate with related ministries and agencies to harmonize laws and regulations, and to start in particular with the suggestions made by foreign chambers of commerce and local industrial and commercial associations, Mao pointed out. He noted that the government's efforts have garnered great support and affirmation from these groups.
