Premier approves draft bill of special act to boost Taiwan's resilience

:::

At Thursday's Cabinet meeting, Premier Cho Jung-tai approved the draft bill of a special act to strengthen Taiwan's economic, social and homeland security resilience in response to international developments, specifically the current U.S. tariff policy affecting Taiwan's industries and workforce. At a post-meeting press conference, the premier explained that the bill, backed by a proposed budget of NT$410 billion (US$12.6 billion), focuses on the four priorities of providing support to industries, stabilizing employment, safeguarding people's livelihoods and enhancing national resilience. The bill will be submitted to the Legislative Yuan for review and, upon its passage, a special budget will be drawn up and likewise submitted for legislative deliberation.

The premier pointed out that the key factors shaping Taiwan's future are not limited to U.S. tariff and trade policies, highlighting that the restructuring of the global trade order will also impact the overall international landscape. Taiwan still faces complex and rapidly evolving geopolitical shifts, making it all the more crucial for the government to be thoroughly prepared.

The premier emphasized that, through this bill, the government seeks to provide comprehensive support across multiple fronts—from industrial economy to public welfare, from homeland security to information and communications resilience. He expressed hope that the bill will garner support from all party caucuses in the Legislative Yuan, enabling it to meet the public's high expectations and ensuring that the government remains the strongest pillar of support for Taiwanese society.
