Dispatch laborer protection, occupational injury insurance acts forthcoming

:::

The Ministry of Labor (MOL) is set to promote new legislation on dispatch laborer protection and occupational injury insurance, and the Executive Yuan will quickly send these bills to the Legislature to safeguard the rights and welfare of workers, Premier Jiang Yi-huah told labor leaders at a dinner banquet today.

The premier noted that the MOL and its predecessor, the Council of Labor Affairs (CLA), in recent years have worked incessantly for the rights and interests of workers, such as by amending the three main labor laws (the Labor Union Act, Act for Settlement of Labor-Management Disputes and Collective Agreement Act) and enacting an unpaid parental leave system. He affirmed the leadership of Minister of Labor Pan Shih-wei, who has overseen these efforts.

"Laborers are a microcosm of society and the backbone of the nation's manpower, and they have various professional associations and industrial representatives," Jiang said. "Thus the labor issues overseen by the MOL are also a common concern of the nation."

The premier also indicated that workers nationwide have high hopes for the MOL, inaugurated February 17, which will have even more resources and capacity to safeguard labor rights than the CLA. He expects Minister Pan to work hand-in-hand with labor leaders and strive for fairness and justice to improve Taiwan's working environment so laborers can enjoy the fruits of their efforts.
