Four-year program to further boost micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises

:::

At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai was briefed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) on a 2026-2029 program to further develop micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). The premier said that in 2025, a plan for the diversified revitalization and development of MSMEs provided consultation and guidance to 247,830 businesses, leading to NT$9.746 billion (approximately US$309.6 million) in output. Building on those results, the government is implementing a program spanning 2026-2029 to continue investing in MSMEs' capacity for both digital and net-zero transformation, thereby promoting inclusive growth.

Premier Cho noted that the four-year program will expand its scope by targeting four dimensions: (1) identifying MSMEs with growth potential and enhancing their artificial intelligence (AI) application capabilities through digital platform adoption; (2) supporting enterprises in need of transformation by facilitating partnerships with startups to develop solutions using innovative technologies and expertise; (3) assisting MSMEs in managing both financial and carbon accounting through collaboration with professional accounting associations; and (4) helping MSMEs seeking international market development and global expansion by providing a one-stop service platform to support the establishment of overseas distribution channels.

The premier further stated that the plan is expected to train 53,000 professionals in digital and net-zero transformation, generate NT$3.2 billion (US$101.7 million) in business opportunities, compile 100,000 carbon emissions data records from MSMEs and reduce carbon emissions by 82,000 metric tons. He instructed the MOEA to step up implementation efforts so that Taiwan's MSMEs can maintain their unique competitive advantages amid the AI wave, global supply chain restructuring and evolving post-tariff landscape.
