Regarding the government's decision to join the Beijing-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Premier Mao Chi-kuo today said that the most important consideration for joining the multilateral organization—under the principle of dignity—is to create the maximum benefits for Taiwan.
Since participation in the AIIB is in the nation's overall interests, the government will go through cross-strait channels and submit a letter of intent to the agency responsible for establishing the AIIB, Mao added.
Taiwan can only protect its interests by becoming a founding member and taking part in the process of defining the members' rights and obligations, he emphasized.
