The Executive Yuan announced today that it has accepted the resignation of Mainland Affairs Council Minister Wang Yu-chi. His successor will be Andrew L.Y. Hsia, who will step down as deputy minister (policy) of national defense to assume the post.
Hsia has also previously served as director-general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York; director of the political division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Washington, D.C.; deputy minister of foreign affairs; and representative of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Jakarta, Indonesia. He has had close interaction with academia and think tanks worldwide and is very familiar with the international strategic situation.
Hsia has three master's degrees: a Master of Arts in diplomacy from the National Chengchi University Department of Diplomacy, a Master of Letters in international law from the New College of the University of Oxford, and a Master of Laws from the University College London Faculty of Laws.
The Executive Yuan stated that Hsia, a professional diplomat, has bountiful administrative experience and capability to execute policies. Under his leadership of the Mainland Affairs Council, the cross-strait relationship can continue to develop based on the foundation established by his predecessors, it affirmed.
