In a live webcast on the Executive Yuan YouTube account this Wednesday, March 18 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. local time, Mainland Affairs Council Minister Andrew L.Y. Hsia will talk about the Executive Yuan's draft statute governing oversight of cross-strait agreements, and he and Executive Yuan Spokesperson Sun Lih-chyun will answer netizens' questions about this subject.
In the first half of the program, Hsia will elaborate on the Executive Yuan's proposed version of this statute and answer questions that have been collected online from netizens. In the second half, webcast viewers can submit questions in the chat room to be collected by online staff, and Sun will select questions to answer directly and immediately.
Taiwan's public has been highly concerned about cross-strait issues in the past year, Sun noted. Following a year of retrospection and introspection, the administration is promoting this oversight statute on cross-strait agreements as a priority bill to be passed by the Legislature this year. The administration hopes the general public will rationally discuss this "explosive" issue that captivated everyone's attention in 2014.
Premier Mao Chi-kuo has reiterated that economic liberalization is an issue that cannot be dodged and thus hopes the oversight statute will be speedily passed by the Legislature so that it will help make cross-strait interactions more transparent.
This webcast is meant to expound on the content of the Executive Yuan's version of the statute, clarify any public doubts, and reorient public focus to the contents of the bill. The administration hopes that through interaction and communication with netizens, social consensus will be achieved and smooth implementation of administrative and political affairs expedited.
