Smart robot program to drive development of new AI tech

:::

At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a National Science and Technology Council briefing on a program to develop smart robots powered by new AI technology. The premier said that, thanks to the joint efforts of industry, government, academia and research institutions, Taiwan has already achieved outstanding results in the fields of semiconductors and information and communications technologies, providing an excellent foundation for the development of the smart robotics industry.

The premier emphasized that Taiwan's smart robotics industry is still in its nascency and must accelerate deployment of real-world applications, while also safeguarding national cybersecurity and addressing future societal needs, in order to strengthen global competitiveness.

Premier Cho said that the new program integrates the R&D capabilities of Taiwan's academic, industrial and research sectors through four strategies: deploying key technologies, establishing an industrial ecosystem, enhancing cybersecurity regulations and cultivating talent. He directed all relevant ministries and agencies to actively collaborate in promoting this initiative to achieve technological autonomy, system innovation, increased production value and the widespread adoption of smart robots, ultimately aiming to transform Taiwan into an "AI island."
