The plum rain season has arrived, and every Friday beginning May 15, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) will conduct a water situation assessment in the morning and announce the newest water-rationing measures at 3 p.m. that same day.
This measure will enable swift responses and reduce the inconvenience water rationing causes to the public and industry, the ministry stated.
The MOEA at today's Cabinet meeting briefed Premier Mao Chi-kuo on its water-supply situation analysis and response measures. The premier stated that although it is plum rain season, there are still many reservoirs with insufficient water reserves, and thus various drought-fighting measures must not be eased.
Mao instructed the MOEA to take reference of Central Weather Bureau (CWB) forecast data and the latest water conditions so as to adopt the most appropriate response measures, minimizing the impact on society.
According to the CWB, a typhoon has formed in waters not far from Taiwan. The premier instructed relevant agencies to keep track of its movement, take precautions and prepare various flood-prevention measures.
Presently the government is fighting drought on the one hand and preventing floods on the other, the premier noted. If the typhoon brings in sufficient rainfall, the drought situation could be alleviated. The relevant agencies must closely monitor the situation and be prepared for whatever comes, the premier admonished.
