The Executive Yuan expressed affirmation and gratitude to the Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) and the THSRC labor union for reaching an agreement to continue transporting passengers during the Lunar New Year holiday, and for adhering to the principles of goodwill and rational communication as well as fulfilling the workers' rights and interests during negotiations, Executive Yuan Spokesperson Sun Lih-chyun stated today.
Sun pointed out that Vice Premier Chang San-cheng, who has been very concerned about public transportation services, had tasked the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) to supervise the THSRC and urge it to extend its greatest goodwill and sincerity in communicating with the THSRC labor union. Chang also expected the union workers would recognize that running regular public transportation services during holidays is a joint responsibility of all.
The vice premier had also tasked the Ministry of Labor (MOL) to assist in setting up a negotiation platform and proactively mediating between the two partners to avoid a disruption of public transportation during the Lunar New Year period.
Chang reminded the MOTC and its Bureau of High Speed Rail to continue to pay attention to the labor issues of THSRC workers and extend all necessary assistance. During this round of negotiations, the MOTC and MOL have worked hand in hand to coordinate direct communication between the THSRC and the labor union and facilitated an agreement.
