Premier Jiang Yi-huah today applauded the success of the World Trade Organization's (WTO) recent Bali Ministerial Conference, saying it restored international confidence in multilateral trade systems and made Taiwanese exports more competitive.
The premier cited the approval of the Bali Package, a consensus on a selection of issues ranging from trade facilitation to agriculture to development, as well as Yemen's accession to the organization as the event's greatest achievements.
"The Bali Package has truly rejuvenated the Doha Round negotiations launched in 2001 and rekindled global confidence in multilateral trade systems," Jiang said. "Once the package's agreements on trade facilitation become effective, Taiwanese companies will enjoy lower import and export tariffs, and Taiwan will be more competitive as a major exporter."
The premier thanked Minister of Economic Affairs Chang Chia-juch and the Taiwanese delegation for their hard work and dedication at the conference.
Additional important WTO negotiations lie ahead, such as those on the Information Technology Agreement and the Trade in Services Agreement, Jiang pointed out, asking relevant ministries and departments to continue garnering more trading advantages for Taiwan.
