At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Su Tseng-chang expressed sincere congratulations on behalf of Taiwan's government to U.S. President Joseph Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on their inauguration, which took place early Thursday Taiwan time.
Relations between Taiwan and the United States have advanced in a positive and encouraging direction since President Tsai Ing-wen took office in 2016, the premier pointed out. The two sides are enjoying more frequent official interactions at higher levels as well as closer cooperation in the realms of economics, trade and regional security.
In addition, Taiwan's de facto ambassador to the U.S. Hsiao Bi-khim represented Taiwan at the U.S. presidential inauguration ceremony, marking the greatest breakthrough in bilateral ties in 42 years. Premier Su expressed hope that Taiwan-U.S. relations will grow ever stronger as the new U.S. administration takes charge.
