The Executive Yuan on Thursday approved the Ministry of Health and Welfare's draft amendments to the Protection of Children and Youths Welfare and Rights Act.
Premier Su Tseng-chang said the amendments aim to help safeguard the physical safety of children and youth by identifying loopholes and implementation gaps in abuse prevention efforts and granting greater legal powers to protection agencies. The revisions also lay out provisions regarding judicial and early intervention procedures in child and youth welfare cases to more effectively prevent abuse before it begins.
The amendment proposal will be forwarded to the Legislative Yuan for deliberation.
