The Ministry of Sports was officially inaugurated on September 9, 2025, with the aim of promoting equal opportunity, social inclusion and sustainable development through athletic activities, while also enhancing Taiwan's presence and participation on the global stage. Aligned with the government's vision of strengthening Taiwan through sports, the new ministry is tasked with overseeing national sports policy and the comprehensive development of physical education. Its subordinate bodies include the newly formed Sports for All Agency and the forthcoming Taiwan Sports Industry Development Center, as well as the existing Taiwan Sports Training Center and Taiwan Institute of Sports Science. These bodies will coordinate to continue bolstering support for competitive sports, actively encourage fitness habits for all, expand the sports industry, and stimulate both the sports economy and domestic demand, thereby ushering in a new era for sports in Taiwan.
Six key policy directions
■ Promote sports for all: Improve basic sports facilities and encourage regular fitness habits across the entire population, making exercise a part of everyday life for all.
■ Integrate systems and institutions for competitive sports: Foster close cooperation between the Taiwan Sports Training Center and individual sports associations to establish a more structured, transparent environment for sports. Emphasize the balance of academics and training for student-athletes, supporting both their future career development and long-term social sustainability.
■ Increase Taiwan's visibility and capacity to host major international sporting events: Secure the rights to hold more prestigious, large-scale international sporting events, thereby strengthening Taiwan's influence on the global sports stage.
■ Advance commercial development of the sports industry: Refine Taiwan's sports industry chain and create more diverse business opportunities through regulatory adjustments, resource integration and cross-sector collaboration.
■ Champion sustainability and diverse values: Address issues such as gender equality, disability sports and senior health, positioning sports as a driving force for social progress.
■ Invest in talent development for youth and student-athletes: Diversify talent recruitment and expand the pool of student-athletes cultivated through school-based training systems, emphasizing a broader range of athletic experiences at the elementary school level in line with the principles of the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model.
