Promoting waste reduction, recycling and resource circulation

:::

To attain the goals of sustainable development and net-zero transformation, Taiwan is shifting from a traditional linear economy centered on the "make-use-dispose" model toward a circular society. To actively advance this transition, the government has approved an updated 2023-2027 program to promote waste reduction, recycling and resource circulation. The program aims to strengthen waste prevention and recycling efficiency, while facilitating the nation's circular economy transition and industrial internationalization. With the goal of swiftly achieving a zero-waste society, the initiative will help usher in a green future for Taiwan that balances environmental sustainability with economic resilience.

Main tasks

Update legislation on resource circulation to establish a circular governance system: Amend the Resource Circulation Promotion Act and Waste Disposal Act.

■ Integrate Taiwan's critical and strategic resources to promote domestic resource circulation: Identify critical and strategic resources, monitor their export abroad, and employ regulatory measures and economic incentives to increase their retention and circular use within Taiwan. Support businesses in creating the necessary conditions to develop and implement resource circulation.

Build "Green Made in Taiwan" (gMIT) into a global brand: Foster comprehensive pathways for resource circulation—from recycling and remanufacturing to productization—and establish a management system for recycled materials. Introduce digital product tracking, and leverage physical showcases and diverse media marketing strategies to position gMIT products as premium offerings and inspire a new wave of green consumption.
