To promote the diversified development of the sports industry, actively enhance its competitiveness and international engagement, and create high-quality environments for sports and recreation, the Executive Yuan has approved a set of sports industry development guidelines for 2026 to 2029. These guidelines will transform sports administration, reframing sports as a key national industrial strategy, and serve as the central policy guide for the sports sector over the next four years. Through six strategic pillars, the initiative will integrate sports-related technology, content, services and facilities to make sports part of people's everyday lives and ensure the sustainable growth of the industry.
Six strategic pillars: "SPORTS"
■ Smart sports solution: Combine sensors, augmented reality, virtual reality, artificial intelligence and other technologies to strengthen the application of sports data and the development of smart venues. Foster cross-sector collaboration and establish real-world validation sites to deploy new innovations and accelerate the transformation of R&D into commercial products.
■ Partnered value co-creation: Use sports as a platform to link the technology, health, finance, culture and tourism industries, establishing mechanisms for sustained cooperation. Raise Taiwan's international profile by actively promoting international sports exchanges and pursuing opportunities to host large-scale international sporting events.
■ Open participation: Lower barriers to participation for people of different ages, abilities and backgrounds through age-inclusive universal design, accessibility improvements, community sports networks and the opening of school facilities to the public. Create diverse sports-viewing experiences and content, and build welcoming, barrier-free environments for spectators.
■ Robust sports ecosystem: Increase tax incentives, policy-based funding, and support for sports-related consumption to bolster the industry's supply capacity. Improve data governance in the sports industry and strengthen the sports event economy, league governance, diversified revenue streams, and the value chain of the sports content industry, thereby advancing the modernization of professional sports operations.
■ Talent for sports future: Assist athletes in honing their competitive skills, while also helping them translate their athletic experience into professional competency in areas such as coaching, marketing, event operations and health promotion. Cultivate talent in athlete representation, event planning, club management, sports technology, data engineering and other related fields.
■ Sustainable growth for sports: Promote green sports, low-carbon practices and the development of sustainable sports products and services. To fulfill social responsibilities, advance environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles in sports, focusing on social inclusion, support for disadvantaged groups, disability-friendly environments, and health promotion.
