At today’s Cabinet meeting, Premier Lin Chuan asked government agencies to strengthen preparations for Tropical Storm Nesat, which formed Wednesday afternoon and is on a projected path toward Taiwan.

Based on the latest data, the Central Weather Bureau will likely issue a sea warning early Friday morning followed by a land warning Saturday afternoon or night, the premier said. While Nesat’s path is still subject to change, he instructed the bureau to track its developments closely and asked disaster response agencies and local authorities to be alert and prepared for all contingencies.

It is difficult to forecast typhoon movements with precise accuracy, and even more difficult to predict which storms will inflict great damage, Premier Lin added. The public should not underestimate Nesat, therefore, and must stay alert and fully prepared for any potentially harmful weather. To prevent further damage to areas still recovering from previous rainfall disasters, local officials should increase protective measures and adjust warning and evacuation standards as is necessary.
