At the Cabinet’s weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Lai Ching-te received a briefing from the Ministry of Labor (MOL) on job training programs for young people. With the unemployment rate coming down to 3.76 percent in September, he asked the ministry to continue guiding young people toward gainful employment. Other government agencies also should collaborate with private companies to train technical workers for fast-growing industries and help young people into the workplace with higher paying jobs.

The MOL said it will continue to design occupational training programs in line with the “five plus two” innovative industries policy, the demands of the labor market, and trends in technical skill development. Academia and industry links will also be bolstered by bringing in industry professionals as instructors, reviewing classifications of job training programs, and offering on-the-job training opportunities. All of these efforts will help young people adapt to industrial and job market changes and improve their employment prospects.
