The Cabinet on Thursday approved amendments to portions of the Customs Import Tariff as drafted by the Ministry of Finance.

Premier Su Tseng-chang said the draft amendments aim to expand cooperation benefits by implementing the tariff cuts pledged in an economic cooperation agreement between Taiwan and Paraguay. The changes are also needed to encourage the replacement of large, aging diesel vehicles, support domestic industrial development, and make tariffs more reasonable for mutual benefit as Taiwan seeks membership in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.

The bill will be forwarded to the Legislature for review.
