The Executive Yuan on Thursday approved draft amendments to portions of the Patent Act to create a more robust patent protection system and promote industrial innovation.

Premier Lai Ching-te said the amendments are aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of reviews in cases of patent remedies. The term of protection for design patents will also be extended from 12 to 15 years to support the development of Taiwan's design industry.

The draft amendments will now be sent to the Legislature for review. The premier instructed the Ministry of Economic Affairs to communicate closely with lawmakers from all parties to ensure an early completion of the amendment process.
